How to Introduce your New Dog to your Existing Dogs

Our dogs will have obedience training and they will listen to you but as a well known dog trainer once said “A dog can love you and not respect you”.

People often think they can just bring a new dog home and let the dogs work things out themselves because their dogs are not aggressive. In some cases yes this can work but reality is that dog fights are possible and unless you take the proper steps you could find yourself in a potentially dangerous situation. It has nothing to do with the new dog been protection trained or even the

How a Dog Improves Home Security

Improving home security is relatively easy. Increasing your security outside the home imposes different challenges.

Experts were asked about home security. Jack MacLean (Secrets of a Superthief) reports the results of a survey of over 300 prison inmates who’d been convicted of burglary or other residential crimes. Three of the questions were about dogs and home security:

Would dogs scare you away?

65% said that dogs of good size and unfriendly persuasion would scare them away

Establishing Yourself As Pack Leader

Dogs need love and affection but also a dominant, alpha leader; a being who is calm and strong-minded. Just like a corporate structure where there are managers  vice presidents presidents and so forth each with clearly defined obligations and limitations it needs to be clear to your dog what his place is in his pack and is your job as alpha to make this clear. Dogs crave this leadership and guidance instinctively. Unstable insecure humans make unstable insecure dogs. Dogs don’t respond to commands from a human who lacks confidence. A good pack leader does not correct his dog

Temperament vs Character

Dogs, like humans, are individuals. There are two sides to personality, one is temperament and the other character. Temperament is a configuration of inclinations, while character is a configuration of habits. Character is disposition, temperament pre-disposition. Temperament is the inborn form of a dog’s nature; character, the emergent form. So temperament they are born with, while character is developed through interaction with the environment.

Owning a Dog Is Linked to Reduced Heart Risk

After reviewing the evidence, the American Heart Association has concluded that dog ownership, in particular, may lower heart disease risk.

The nation’s largest cardiovascular health organization has a new message for Americans: Owning a dog may protect you from heart disease.

The unusual message was contained in a scientific statement published on Thursday by the American Heart Association, which convened a panel of experts to review years of data on the cardiovascular benefits of owning a pet. The group concluded that owning a dog, in particular, was “probably associated” with a reduced risk of heart disease.

People who own dogs certainly have more

I too was once oblivious and blissfully ignorant to the crime around me and the vicious nature of home invasion robberies that happen EACH and EVERYDAY in this country. A declining economy, increasing unemployment and poverty influence an increase in robberies, home invasions, rape and other heinous crimes. The disturbing reality is that a violent crime occurs every five minutes and a burglary occurs every
