Laizhou Hong

Laizhou Hong also known as the Chinese Red Dog, or The Red Dog of China. Not much information on the breed other than it’s known to have its origins in Shandong province in China. In the 19th century, that province (as well as some other parts of China) was colonized by Germans after Jiao Zhou Bay and Qingdao Peninsula were leased from the Ching Dynasty in 1898. These people arrived in Qingdao Peninsula with their dogs, and after years of breeding their Great Danes and German Shepherd Dogs with local dogs, including the Shandong Xian Hound, the Laizhou Hong was established as its own breed. Red markings (“Hong” in Chinese means red) are a distinguishing hallmark of the breed. They tend to be medium to large 75Lbs-120lbs Described as a confident and loyal dog that can be friendly and calm. They will fetch a ball but are not crazy for it. We’ve seen, however,  a natural well defined protective instinct, and thus they make excellent and reliable deterrence and protection K9 for those who prefer a calmer breed that although would run a few miles with you would rather just hang out.
